Prepared speeches are the cornerstone of the Toastmasters International educational program. They are speeches that members plan, write, practice, and then deliver during a club meeting.

Master the art Impromptu speeches, while often impromptu speeches are  daunting, offer a wealth of benefits that extend far beyond public speaking events. Leadership Training Programs

The Competent Leadership (CL) Manual is a foundational resource for Gavel Clubs (and their parent organisation, Toastmasters International). It's a workbook designed to guide members through various leadership experiences within the club setting, providing a structured approach to developing essential leadership skills.

Our programs are suitable for students aged 11-17 years old.

Do you offer online meetings?

Yes, we offer online meetings for participants who are outside Auckland we highly recommend physical meeting for those staying in Auckland. And we do have youth joining from Nelson, Tauranga, Hamilton currently.  

How much does it cost to become a member?

Clubs are non-profit entities. Fees vary from club to club depending on what services and facilities they choose to provide their members. However, the current cost is $50.00 yearly, plus a one-off joining fee for new members.

How often do you have meetings?

Meetings are conducted every week Wednesday 6pm to 7pm during school terms. 

Is there any other gavel club here in New Zealand?

No. As far as i know there is no other club here is New Zealand for students aged 11-17 years. This is the only one in New Zealand. 

What is the role the parents?

Parents of Gavel Club members (ages 11-17) play a vital role in supporting their child's development in public speaking and leadership. While the club's mentors and older members provide direct coaching, parental involvement significantly enhances the experience and outcomes for the young Gaveliers.

Where are you club meetings ?

Our physical meetings are in Manukau - Auckland

Do I need any previous experience to join the club?

No you do not. Its not about PERFECTION, it's about PARTICIPATION and COMMITMENT and TO GROW. 

Do I need to contact a club before attending?

Preferable yes, contact the club in advance to confirm start time, duration and where the meeting will be held but you are most welcome to turn up few a few minutes early to receive an agenda and short explanation of how meetings work. 

How long do the club meeting last ?

Meetings can last from one-to-two hours and frequency varies from weekly to monthly. 

Our Club runs meeting weekly for 1 hour, every wednesday 6pm to 7 pm

Do I need to bring anything to a club meeting?

You are not required to bring anything to a meeting. Most clubs provide hand-outs, agendas and, depending on the duration of the meeting, snacks and refreshments. We believe learning happens best when having fun so we aim to encourage a light-hearted environment. 

VERY IMPORTANT - PLEASE BRING YOUR MANUALS & PLEASE GET IS SIGNED OFF BY VPE OR THE PRESIDENT. 

I am a guest, what i can participate in?

Guests attending a Toastmasters/Gavel club meeting has the option of observing or introducing themselves. You may also have the opportunity of participating in Table Topics – the part of the meeting where members are given a random topic and invited to speak on that topic for one-to-two minutes. 

Is there a leader or instructor?

Each Club has a President who may open and/or close the meetings. Each meeting is lead by a member rostered on to do so called the “Toastmaster of the Day” but there is no formal instructor. All members are assigned various duties for each meeting which rotate regularly. Learning is supported by Toastmasters manual - Competent Communication and Competent Leadership. 

Can I visit more than one club?

Though currently MC UTH Gavel club is the only one for aged 11-17 years here in New Zealand.
